APPRAISAL AND REVALIDATION UPDATES
According to GMC website, "Revalidation is the process by which licensed doctors will, in future, regularly demonstrate to the GMC that they are up to date and fit to practice. In doing so it aims to deliver further assurance to patients about the doctors who treat them."
Revalidation is expected to begin in late 2012. Revalidation: A Statement of Intent (PDF, 464KB) sets out the GMC and our partners' commitment to change the way doctors are regulated in the UK.
The Revalidation Support Team (RST) has now published the final version of its Medical Appraisal Guide and a model appraisal forms - you can find these at the RST website.
Revalidation issues for SASGs
Though all groups are finding preparation for revalidation a challenge, SASG and wider NCCGs have unique hurdles. All educational establishments have recognised this and are endeavouring to assist SASGs in overcoming them.
London Deanery has a put great emphasis in allocating resources for facilitation of appraisal support for all groups within its region. Julia Whiteman is the Director for Appraisal, Revalidation and Performance at London Deanery. Frontier works closely with this team to bring up to date news and advice for SASGs. You can find a presentation by Dr Whiteman which advises about Revalidation Readiness in the downloads box on the right hand side of this page.
How to prepare:
For revalidation, strengthened appraisals are a must and these result in an agreed PDP ( personal development plan) for individual doctors and dentists. These PDPs will require the professionals to maintain and further develop their skills.
The Academy of Joint Royal Colleges has put together a guideline for CPD framework (10 principles for CPD) to be used as a guide by all specialities. Each speciality has drafted together guidance for CPD on its own College .We are embedding the following links to some of the web pages for your ease.
